John L. Rampi, 84, of Plainville, passed away on Monday,
(March 3, 2003) at Plainville Health Care Center.
He was the widower of Stella (Warchol) Rampi. John was born in Avon on June 15,
1918,
the son of the late Carlo and Emilia (Chiesia) Rampi.
He entered the US Army in February 1943, attached to the 80th Division.
He landed in Normandy the first part of August, 1944 and went on to participate
in the "Blue Ridge"
Division's campaigns in France, Germany, Austria, and Luxembourg as a Staff
Sergeant,
specializing in intelligence work due to his language abilities in Italian and
French.
After his discharge, he returned to Plainville where he rejoined his family at
the
Bel-Vedere Inn, which he continued to own and operate for many years.
He changed careers when he married and had a family,
and became a tool and dye worker for Wasley Products, Inc.,
where he thoroughly enjoyed working for over 40 years.
He was an enthusiastic golfer with the Wasley golf league, and was a member of
UNICO and WASCO
Employee's Club. John was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church,
where he was a member of the Men's Retreat League and 1-2 Club, and was a
member of the Knights of Columbus Gerald T. Corrigan Council,
the Lion's Club, and the VFW Madeley Roberts Post #574.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Rick Lawson of Farmington;
a son,
Gerald C. Rampi of N. Easton, MA; his grandchildren, Jill and Andrew Lawson of
Farmington
and Brendan Rampi of N. Easton, MA; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law,
Katherine and Joseph Fletcher, a brother-in-law, Eugene Warchol; a nephew,
Curtis Warchol,
and a niece, Katherine Perreault. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by a
sister, Cecelia Segalini,
his daughter-in-law, Jane (Sheehan) Rampi, and sister-in-law, Gloria Warchol.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, at 9 a.m. from
Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St, Plainville,
with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m at
Our Lady of Mercy Church.
Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday (TODAY) from 4-8 pm at the funeral home.
