
William “Bill” E Kern, 92, widower of the late Helen (Ciesinski) Kern
died Friday, March 30, 2012 at Southington Care Center.
He was born July 13, 1919 in Scranton, PA and was a son of
the late William and Mary (Schimelfenig) Kern.
Bill resided most of his life in Bristol before moving to Southington.
He was a tool and die maker at Associated Spring Company, a division of
Barnes Group, Inc., and retired in 1984 after 46 years of service.
Bill lived a long and fulfilling life as a devoted husband, father, and
grandfather.
He was a “gentle giant” of a man and a warm and sentimental soul.
His many hobbies and loves included traveling the world with his wife after
retirement,
fishing, woodworking, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church and a
member of the Knights of Columbus, Plainville Assembly, 4th Degree.
Bill was also a 50 year member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks
(BPOE) #1010,
St. Stanislaus Golden Agers Club, the parish Men’s Club, and the Bristol Senior
Center.
He leaves a daughter-in-law, Sandra Kern of Bristol; two brothers,
Thomas Kern of Roaring Brook Township, PA and Paul Kern of Colorado; one sister,
Catherine Allen of Georgia; five grandchildren, Holly and Brian Imwold of
Baltimore, MD,
Matthew and Susan Kern of Norwell, MA, Laurel and Christopher Barrett of
Wethersfield, CT,
Melissa KernSmith of Bristol, CT, and Amanda Kern and Lynn Aniskiewicz of
Snellville, GA;
eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and
parents,
he was predeceased by a son, William Kern, a brother Joseph Kern, and five
sisters,
Rita Chmielewski, Peggy Morgan, Joan Pawlick, Ann Slocum, and Barbara Weber.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 4,, 2012 from 8:30am to 10:30am
at the
DuPont Funeral Home, 25 Bellevue Avenue, Bristol, CT,
followed by a mass at 11am at the St. Stanislaus Church, 510 West Street,
Bristol, CT.
Entombment will follow at the Holy Family Chapel Mausoleum at St. Joseph
Cemetery, Bristol, CT.
