Walter Robert Rivers, 85, of Plainville, died March 25, 2011,
while visiting his beloved family in California.

He was the husband of the late Ruth (Bass) Rivers.

He was born in New Britain, on May 5, 1925, one of three sons to
the late Edward J. and Mary Ellen (McNamara) Rivers.

Upon graduation from New Britain High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army,
serving his country in France and Germany during World War II.

He was honorably discharged in 1945, and returned home to marry his sweetheart,
Ruth, with whom he shared 53 years of love and devotion.

They built their home in Plainville where they raised their daughter, Barbara.

He had a longtime career as a quarry dispatcher for New Haven Trap Rock
and Tilcon, retiring after more than 30 years.

An outdoors enthusiast, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on his car.

They shared many traveling adventures together and especially enjoyed visiting
their grandchildren in California. A wonderful father and grandfather,
he leaves his family with many cherished memories, and will be dearly missed.

He leaves his daughter, Barbara White and her husband, Ken, of Fair Oaks, Calif.;
his three adored grandsons, John White, of Seattle; Greg White, of Carmichael, Calif.,
and Colin White, of Fair Oaks, Calif.; his brother, Raymond Rivers and his wife,
Alice, of Onset, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Rivers.

The funeral was held April 4, 2011, at
Bailey Funeral Home, Plainville,

followed by a Mass at
Our Lady of Mercy Church.

Committal services followed at
St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.
