Walter Smykla 91, of Plainville, died June 14, 2012, at the Jerome Home in New Britain.
He was the husband of the late Irene (Alexsiewicz) Smykla who passed away in 2003.

He was born March 22, 1921, in Plainville, a son of the late John and Rose Smykla.
Along with his brother Stanley, he was the owner of Plainville Autobody for over 50 years.

He enjoyed traveling the world with his wife and their many friends and
spent many hours adding to his coin collection.

He always looked forward to going to J. Timothy's and meeting with his friends
and sharing a few laughs with them. He was also an avid sports fan.

In his younger years he raced stock cars at Plainville Stadium.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Gerald Corrigan Assembly of Plainville
and was a Communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church.

He was much like the coins he collected – precious and one of a kind.
He was truly a treasure! His family will miss his jokes and hearty laughter.
Walter's family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the
Jerome Home for their excellent care and support.

He is survived by his devoted daughters and their spouses, Ondrea Chasse and her husband, John, of Plainville,

and Alex Thomas, of Milford; his great-grandchildren, Cole, Carson and Colin Napierski;
and Molly his cat. Walter's family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Ian Akins
for his companionship and all the kindness he showed to Walter over the years.
