Normand L. Ortner, 87, of Plainville, passed away in the comfort of his home
with his wife, Laurette (Dubuc) Ortner, by his side. Normand and Laurette shared
62 loving years of marriage.
Normand was born on Jan. 5, 1929, in New Britain, son to the late Jasper and
Agnes (Chappell) Ortner. He was a long time resident of Plainville where he was
a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church. After graduating from New Britain
High School, Normand joined the U.S. Marine Corps where he proudly served our
country. He was later drafted into the U.S. Army, where he proudly served our
country as a corporal during the Korean War Conflict. He was honorably
discharged from both branches of the military. Normand retired as a postmaster
from the U.S. Postal Service in Plainville after over 30 dedicated years of
working. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the former president of
the AARP Plainville Chapter.
In addition to his wife, Laurette, Normand is survived by his daughters, Susan
J. Turko, of Manchester, and Denise Stepka and her companion, Steve, of Port
Richey, Fla.; his sons, David Ortner and his wife, Toni, of Southington and
Michael Ortner and his wife, Ginger, of Plainville; his grandchildren, Matthew,
Ryan, Kevin, Christopher, Jessica, Malissa, Tyler, and Kimber; his
great-grandson, Brady; his brother, Elwin E. Ortner, of Micco, Fla.; and several
nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Lillian Chandler, of New
Britain.
A Mass of Christian burial in celebration of Normand's life was held on
Saturday, Sept. 24, at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 94, Broad St., Plainville.
Burial with full military honors was held in Saint Joseph Cemetery in
Plainville. Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad Street, Plainville. In lieu of
flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Normand be donated to a charity
of the donor's choice.
