Bob Mercure
Joseph R. R. "Bob" Mercure
June 8th, 2012

Joseph. "Bob" Mercure, 82, of Plainville, entered into eternal rest at home
with his family by his side on Friday, June 8, 2012.

Bob leaves behind his loving wife, Jane Fayle Mercure, whom he married
on November 19, 1955. He rejoins beloved son, Edward Robert Mercure, who
predeceased him in 2010. He also leaves his grateful daughters (and sons-in-law),
Sharon and Glenn Washburn of Old Saybrook; his beloved angel to whom he was
a devoted caretaker, Maureen Anne; Colleen and Mark Brochu, all of Plainville;
and Gail and Michael Colossale of Burlington. He took great pride and joy
in his adoring grandchildren to whom he offered his steadfast love and support:
Matthew and Kevin Mercure (along with their mother, Jeanette Howes); Benjamin
and Joshua Bachman; Erin and Taegan Brochu; and Grace, Samuel, Harrison,
and Mason Colossale.

Born at home in New Britain, CT on November 29, 1929, Bob was the son of the
late Adrien and Blanche (Richer) Mercure. Upon losing both parents as children,
he and his brother, Edward, were relocated to Worcester to begin life anew with
their uncle and aunt, the late Emilien and Grace (Loiselle) Mercure and their
daughters who became true sisters in every sense of the word and who he now leaves
behind; Carol Fields of CO and Joyce Griffin and her husband, Donald, and a dear cousin,
Rita diReda, all of MA; his sister-in-law, Jackie Fayle of VA; his Wishart cousins-in-law
as well as many nieces, nephews, and godchildren. He shared 55 years with extraordinary
neighbors - the Herman Masse Family. His siblings, Lucien, Marguerite, and Edward,
departed many years before him.

Bob attended schools in both New Britain and Worcester, MA. He served four years
in the U.S. Navy on the U.S. Amphion out of Norfolk, VA and completed trade school.
He was a loyal 33-year employee at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Southington where
he worked as a Tool Designer. Bob was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Church since
his marriage and a 55 year active member of the Plainville Knights of Columbus fraternal
organization, serving as Grand Knight and as Faithful Navigator. In 2009,
he and his wife were honored with the Celebrate Plainville! Award for
outstanding community service based on years of involvement with PARC
and his consistent fundraising and outreach efforts through the Knights of Columbus.
A volunteer for the American Cancer Society, he drove patients to and from their
treatments. He was a dedicated blood donor and served as a Notary Public.

Quiet and contemplative, Bob was simply a good man without extravagant wants
or needs who always put family first with unwavering devotion.

With heartfelt appreciation for the care and support offered by the staff of the VNA Health
Care HOPE Team and special thanks to Debra Dawson, an honorary addition to that team.
